Este año no habrá Salón de World Press Cartoon

The management of the World Press Cartoon made intense diligences, until the end of the first half of 2016, in order to unlock the financing for the 12th edition of our salon. As known, the World Press Cartoon celebrated with the Mayor of Cascais, Portugal, a partnership agreement for two editions of the event, in 2015 and 2016. The first one took place, in the date and under the conditions established by both partners.
Unfortunately, our main sponsor successively postponed a final decision that would allow us to launch the participation call in time for the 2016 competition. At this point, we state that there is no financial support to launch the event, within the quality standards and the rules respect that have been World Press Cartoon trademark.
Accordingly, for the first time since 2005, the world community of cartoonists will be deprived of this unique meeting point.
We believe that the World Press Cartoon records ensures the commitment of the organization in defence of the values we share on the freedom of the press and the promotion of the cartoon as an essential component of the good journalism.
Let’s turn on to the future! We keep working in order to fulfil the indispensable conditions to organize the World Press Cartoon 2017. We acknowledge the support of all the cartoonists who contacted us, with words of encouragement that mean a strong incentive for World Press Cartoon team to continue the last 11 years path.
A few years ago, while referring to the spirit of celebration of the World Press Cartoon awards, one of the prize winners made a reminder of the visual message from our logo: «Let the idea of a smiling world live!» Never before has this appeal reached our mind in a more urgent and fairer way.
